Explore Indo Cymru, Indian Restaurant, Cardiff

Indo Cymru, Indian Restaurant, Cardiff, at 173 Cowbridge Rd E, Cardiff CF11 9AH, is a long-standing spot in Canton that has built its name on traditional Indian cooking, welcoming service, and a character that feels rooted in the local area. Established in 1983 and only a short walk from Cardiff city centre, it stands out as one of those restaurants that still carries a classic Indian restaurant identity, both in its menu and in its setting. Inside, the décor adds to that sense of occasion, with decorative glass booth partitions featuring intricate scenes inspired by Indian life, giving the dining room a distinctive and memorable touch. The food is generally appreciated for being flavourful, satisfying, and fairly priced, making it an appealing choice for anyone looking for a dependable curry house in this part of Cardiff. Dishes such as the lamb vindaloo leave a particularly strong impression, with tender meat and bold flavour that show the kitchen at its best, while sides like the naan bread and poppadoms are also often noted as enjoyable parts of the meal. The atmosphere is usually pleasant and relaxed, and the staff are regarded as friendly, although service can sometimes feel slightly uneven when it comes to recommending dishes or understanding exactly how much heat a guest is looking for, especially for those wanting something genuinely fiery. Even so, Indo Cymru continues to offer the kind of old-school Indian dining experience that many people actively seek out: established, comfortable, decorative, and focused on hearty, familiar dishes rather than trends or gimmicks, making it a recognizable and enduring presence on Cowbridge Road East for those exploring Cardiff’s Indian food scene.

After much pondering over which Indian to have We chose this one, and so glad we did. Had lamb vindaloo and it was perfect. Lam. Was so tender and tasty. Would definitely come here again. . Loved it.

Food is pretty good but nothing special. The staff are nice enough but there was a bit of a language barrier when i asked for recommendations. I asked for the spiciest dish they had, but the waiter thought it was a joke and brought me a very mild curry. The poppadoms were nice and naan very good. The atmosphere is not bad, but apparently they have no qualms about beggars coming in and asking for a few £ The bill did not include service charge, so we left a tip, but the waiter must have thought it was too modest since he asked for another 40p

Situated in the heart of Canton, a short walk from Cardiff City Centre, the Indo Cymru is one of the few remaining true Indian Restaurants still here. Opening in 1983 the Indo Cymru has continued to serve excellent Indian Food at a reasonable price. The ornate etchings of Indian life that are found in the glass partitions of the booths in the Restaurant are worth are visit alone.

Deserves 5 star. Food is pretty cheap compared to most places, yet the quality of the food is amazing for the price. Curry is very tasty, chips are fresh and are the best I've eaten. Definitely recommend this place. I got collection but the inside was cosy and had a lovely atmosphere, will eat in some day!

That traditional British take on the Indian Restaurant, sure it probably hasn't changed since it opened in 1983 but does it have to? Small quaint and charming, delicious food friendly service all at a fair price. Yeah yeah you could say it's dated or lacks some atmosphere but for me that's what makes it even more charming full of nostalgia, I feel it's safe to say everyone in Cardiff has a story about Indo Cymru and is probably as well known as Dorothy's on Chippy Alley.

Indo Cymru offer a wide range of traditional dishes and house specialities with something to suit all tastes. Service is very polite and attentive. Food is served promptly and piping hot. I visited twice and the meal was excellent on each occasion. I would definitely go back when I'm next in the area. Being in Wales, I had to have the rice half & half, to accompany my main course, it's practically a national dish in its own right

What a great place to eat. In Cardiff for the champions cup and heard about this being one of the oldest curry houses. Great service and excellent quality food. We were a group of 6 and the restaurant was full but food and drinks were delivered in timely manner. Would highly recommend.
